The Essence and Applications of Taijiquan by Yang Chengfu. Chengfu was not appreciated as a writer by his benefactors, this manual is one of two promised by Yang. but he was one heck of a fighter.  Yang died before the second manual was produced.  This manual is pretty much assumed to have been authored by his disciple, Cheng, Man-Ching.  Committed his life to teaching taijiquan for the benefit of the people.

This is for those who want to get a "feel" for T'ai Chi.  I met the Master at a workshop in a dance studio in SoHo.  That should help you figure the "flavor" of this book.  It's worth a ( light) read.

 
Body Mechanics of Tai Chi Chuan by William C. C Chen ***Long time student of Cheng, Man-Ching, Master of his own creation,Grandmaster and master to thousands of students.  I own several (autograpehd) editions of this book, revisions Master Chen has made as his practice and understand have evolved.  You should have one too.

 
Chinese Boxing: Masters and Methods by Robert W. Smith This book helps the student with a framework-easten approaches to fighting arts as opposed to western.  Smith also studied under Cheng, Man-Ching.

 
Cheng Tzu's Thirteen Treatises on T'ai Chi Ch'Uan by Cheng Man Ch'Ing A guiding reference prepared by Master Cheng for his many disciples and students.  Master of the "Five Excellences" and teacher of self-cultivation.
